Dating : Did most of you met your partners in online dating (OLD)?

Dating : Did most of you met your partners in online dating (OLD)?

Just wondering since old is like a wasteland for me. I don’t even know if most girls in there are real or not since I either match with bots, influencers or girls that never reply.

Based on my terrible experience, I am just wondering if most people (like me) don’t meet anyone there. And also wondering who on their right mind would use such masochistic apps. But, I guess that many people have met their SOS there or is that just survivorship bias?

Does online dating only work for really attractive people?

  1. I met my first long-term girlfriend on Plenty of Fish, way back in 2016. I ended up breaking it off after a year because she wanted kids/marriage and I did not. After that, I was single for the next three years, never managing to find a relationship that lasted longer than one or two dates. That very well could have been because I was over thirty at the point, effectively aging out of the dating pool.

I’d probably still be single if I hadn’t signed up for the Meetups site and starting going out and meeting people in-person. I met my current partner at a cookout about a year after I started doing it and we’ve been living together for three months now.

Honestly, depending on your age and how charismatic you can be through chat, Online Dating could still be a viable option for you. I wouldn’t recommend relying on it, though. You’ll probably have more fun and better luck just getting out and socializing with people.

  2. I have had 3 ltr in the past 6 years. My 2 longest relationships were guys I met in person. One relationship was with a guy I met on OLD. That relationship only lasted 6 months. What I found with him was that we were both nice people who were looking to be in a relationship but we didn’t have much in common and that became clear as time progressed. On the other hand with my other relationships they were both from the same town as me so we came from a similar demographic, had similar beliefs, and just a better understanding of one another overall.

I have multiple friends who are in successful relationships from OLD but I still know more people who are in ltr from meeting in person.

  3. I just became exclusive with someone I met on OLD back in May. Honestly, I expected nothing when meeting up with him (maybe a fun night), but after that first meet up, we both realized we actually have tons in common and are very attracted to eachother. It happened very naturally. My relationships before this were also a result of OLD, one lasting 5 years and the other about 1 year.

  4. Yes, but at first it basically never worked for me. It only changed when I made myself more attractive – lowered bodyfat percentage, improved my fashion, etc. Also got some high quality pictures. Completely changed everything for me, now OLD is my preferred method of dating.
