Dating : Go for It/Move On

I was at a party earlier this summer and met a guy. We made out for awhile, had a great time, and people basically had to tear us apart in the end because the chemistry was that strong. He’s exactly what I’d look for in a significant other and I’ve been struggling to find someone I liked to date for awhile now. For context, I’m a female in my early 20s, have never had a boyfriend/have dated around but haven’t found anyone I could click with.

We talked it out afterwards and he made it clear he didn’t want to start dating someone this summer who would be going away to school (I go to college on the East Coast, he’s on the West Coast). I totally agree with him that it’s a bad idea to start something…but it has been over a month and I can’t get over him. We were at a gathering the other day and it was almost painful to me to only treat him as a friend when I honestly just want to be snuggled up against him. I haven’t been as happy as I was that night with him for at least half a year. I usually don’t like hookups and have a feeling I could end up hurt…but part of me wants to explore things with him. Another issue is we both live at home since we’re in college, not like a dorm would be available. I don’t even know if he’s interested in me still or if he only said the distance thing as a nice rejection.

If you were in my situation, would you be honest with him about your feelings and try for something? Or should I just go back to school when I know I’ll be comparing every guy to him?

  1. I would totally be honest with him. It’s not that common to click with someone that easily and that readily. If you guys’ hometowns are near by each other, why not just do this fling over the summer and enjoy it well it lasts. Don’t deprive yourself of it. Even if it’s so short. Everything in life is temporary, nothing lasts forever, whether you can see its end on the horizon or not. So enjoy it while you have it. You’re not young forever.
