Dating : How do I tell someone I’m dating that they aren’t the only one?
I (34f) haven’t spent much time dating as I’ve been married and in long term relationships. I’m finally dating in the standard form: talking to a few men over text, going on dates, etc. I have really hit it off with one guy and things are going well. We have not discussed exclusivity as it’s still very new but I get the feeling he thinks I’m only talking to him. He has made comments that he isn’t talking to anyone else in passing and I didn’t have the opportunity to really address it at that time. I like him a lot but I want to get to know him better before we take that step. There is another guy I’m talking to who knows about him because it came up naturally in conversation. The first guy has been cheated on and hurt in the past and I want to be sensative to that. I wonder if everyone assumes that you date multiple people when single or is this something I need to make a point to address with him to prevent hurt feelings down the road? If so, how do I bring this up?
Well from my experience you assume the other person is dating multiple people at the same time. It truly isn’t any of his business if you are or are not. If it came up naturally then there isn’t a problem to talk about it, otherwise I would continue dating without mentioning it. Especially since you mentioned he might be the sensitive type, he may back off from dating you.
This is why I hate trying to date now. You think you have a connection with someone and he/she probably has 3 other dates lined up.
I believe this is what dating is.
Going out and interacting with people you are interest in having an exclusive relationship with until you find one that fits you both.
You cant put all your eggs in one basket until you know for sure its wont break.
Im getting into dating now, actually going on dates and thats what i assume the other person is doing and what i would be doing if i had more options at the time.
You are not exclusive until you have the talk. Bring it up the next time you feel comfortable, or date the 2d guy.
