Dating : How early to bring up dealbreaker

Dating : How early to bring up dealbreaker

I am a vegetarian and my partner is not and we’ve been dating for a little less than two months. I know that I want to raise my kids vegetarian but how early should I bring that up?

Also, would this be a dealbreaker for any of you if someone told you this?

Edited to say I want my kids to be vegetarian early on and for them to be well informed about what they are eating but if they choose to eat meat when they are older that would be their choice.

  1. The sooner the better. In software engineering we call this « fail fast ». So you what to talk about any potential dealbreakers as early as possible.

    >Also, would this be a dealbreaker for any of you if someone told you this?

Yes. If I wanted kids I would NOT force my diet onto them. I would ensure their diet meets their personal needs in accordance with a medical professional (nutritionist, pediatrician) .

  2. I’m vegan and a partner not being vegan has never been a deal breaker. However they’ve *never* been opposed to children being raised meat free when the relationship got to that level. I would honestly try to only date people with my dietary restrictions if it mattered to me that much.

  3. Good luck and yes that would be a dealbreaker.

You have the right to be vegetarian or vegan or whatever as long as it impact you only, to give you an exemple of how that could be a dealbreaker to me

  4. I believe that general wishes for your future should be brought up early on, just to check for compatibility. I’m not sure I want kids at all, so if someone absolutely wants them, we’d be wasting each others time. So in your case bring it up if its a dealbreaker. I personally wouldn’t raise kids on a vegetarian diet if I decided to have them. So it could be a dealbreaker for me. Then again most vegetarians/vegans would not be happy dating me.
