Dating : Question for women who use dating sites. How do you feel about puns/references concerning your name or username as an ice breaker?
After a couple bottles of wine tonight I decided to make another plenty of fish account after a 3 month break from dating while I worked on my mental health. For some reason when messaging girls tonight I was in a punny mood. None have responded yet (it is 2 am) so I don’t know yet if it’ll work at all.
To be clear I don’t just make a pun I’ll also ask a couple questions about stuff they’ve mentioned in their profile and might make a joke or two. So what’s the verdict? Should I keep this up or stop being a dork?I know every one is different but I wouldnt mind getting a general consensus.
Some examples are:
« I know you’re foliage but I would never leave you » (her headline just said « foliage »)
« If you’re looking for a prince I can be your frog and you can be my lilypad » (her name is Liy and she had the typical « looking for my prince » in her profile
« Your profile is a paige turner » (her name was Paige)
« Are you the Targaryen Queen by any chance? I mean sleeping with your nephew I can tolerate but mass murder is a bit much » (her name was Dani »
« How would you like to ride my magic carpet? » (her name was Jasmine)
The one about the magic carpet came off as sexual, IMO. Be careful not to give off that kind of vibe unless you’ve got model-tier looks. Probably won’t go over well, otherwise.
If that’s your kind of humor then it will attract the right people and weed out those not on your level.
It would be a hardcore eye roll from me. I especially hate puns though.

I think this pun was really sweet and creative! The other ones were so-so imo, but still, better than « hey » or « what’s up »
Some will love it, some will hate it, some will be indifferent. So, really, it’s up to you. Maybe it will land you someone great. Maybe it will land you someone terrible. Maybe it will scare away someone great. Maybe it will scare away someone terrible. Really, none of us can say, it will vary person by person
