Dating : Stood up tonight

I met a guy a few weeks back. I saw him at a bar, thought he was cute and asked him if he was single. He said yes so I got his number.

We had plans for a date two weeks ago, but a work thing came up so I cancelled a few days prior asking for a rain check.

He texted me yesterday asking if we can get a drink tonight. I said sure and he gave me a time and a place.

And then he didn’t show. I waited 30 mins, texted and called. I’m pretty sure I’m blocked because after the first text the second didn’t go through.

I’ve never had this happen before and it’s terrible. I mean— f him— whatever. But what a shitty thing to do. I hate dating. After being ghosted after a few dates with someone else and then this, I’m just over it.

  1. Happens quite a lot, I’ve been single for 5 years myself. Finally managed to find a date a few months ago, had plans to meet up at a restaurant so I showed up a tad earlier then planned and grabbed a table. Waited for probably about an hour and a half before the server asked me if I got stood up. Was the most awkward and embarrassing time I’ve ever paid a bill. But it happens all the time unfortunately no need to dwell on the fish that swim away too fast

  2. You dodged a bullet, dude sounded vindictive and impulsive. Bad combo. I’ve never been stood up. But I was ghosted. lol My ex gf ghosted me the day after she said that she was in love with me. Then after about a week of ghosting, she calls me up, ugly crying, telling me that she was just scared and to give her a second chance. Broke up 3 months later. lol Ghosting is a red flag, it’s a sign that the person lacks maturity and responsability.

  3. that sucks. i guess my only advice would be that when you cancel a date, make sure to set/offer a concrete time in the future or else it looks like you’re playing games. you should have probably taken the initiative of asking him on a date since you’re the one that cancelled originally. its also a bit ambiguous while reading this post as to what the communication between both of you looked like in those 2 weeks

example: had a work thing come up tonight, are you available this weekend to go instead? hows (insert day) at (insert time) sound?

  4. Anyone who doesn’t have the common decency or character to take two seconds to send a text to cancel plans or give a little closure rather then ghosting probably isn’t worth your time and energy.

Obviously rejection feels awful and nothing anyone on here is going to say anything to change that but you probably don’t want to date someone who treats other people like this.

Best of luck in the future.
