Dating : Why would someone not want you to be happy for them?

Dating : Why would someone not want you to be happy for them?

I had been casually seeing a guy on and off for about a year and a half. We live in different cities so it was difficult for something serious to develop. After a while he started asking me to get into a relationship with him but I said that I wasn’t sure. We had kept talking until about a month ago when he got into a relationship with someone else and moved in with her immediately as well. We met up yesterday and he told me the news. I said I was happy for him, but he kept telling me that he could tell that I wasn’t. He kept repeating that I must be jealous. And he wouldn’t believe me when I said I was truly happy for him. Does anyone here have an idea as to why he would say that?

  1. He wants to believe that you’re jealous so that he can think you’re his backup plan if this goes south. If you’re happy for him that would mean that you’re able to let go, and you having that kind of emotional freedom from him is something he doesn’t like. You dodged a bullet.
