Dating : First meeting – hug? handshake? awkward nod?


Maybe a bit of a stupid question, but I tend to way overthink these kind of things.

It’s been a while since I’ve been in a relationship, so I’ve decided to give online dating a try. What is the generally accepted greeting for the first real-life meetup? I’ve never been very comfortable with physical contact beyond a handshake (which seems a little tacky?).

  1. I usually receive a hug. It’s less awkward compared to handshakes because it just seems way too formal, and it shows that youre a bit more enthusiastic towards the date imo.

  2. Always hug. Just open your arms out and be like heyyyy usually it’ll just go into a half hug or something but never been really awkward or anything.

  3. I have been trained by my job (and modern society) that anything a man does that is remotely forward or physical is grounds for immediate legal action.

    I would NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER go for a hug on first meeting unless they (the female) initiated. And let’s face it, that’s not gonna happen.

    I appreciate the candor of a genuine courteous handshake, but I am single AF, so…
