Dating : Letting Go

Had what I thought was a real good thing take an abrupt turn. One day she told me she was done and that I deserve better. I asked what was wrong and tried to have a conversation so we could work through whatever it was she was feeling bad about.

We didn’t speak over the weekend and then just yesterday morning we finally talked. She was very adamant that I let her go and move on. I didn’t understand why and her explanation was that she realized she was subconsciously taking her personal issues out on me (which I never picked up on cuz she was never mean to me..though if she was having a bad day she would ask for space which I personally see nothing wrong with).

When I took time to really think about what she was saying, I realized a few things:
– she needs space to battle her demons
– saying she doesn’t think I deserve to deal with her going through that is an indirect way of either saying she doesn’t trust me to ride with her, or that she doesn’t really want to work out a relationship with me
– her being right and happy within herself is more important than the happiness we could’ve potentially shared together

Though it’s hard and I’m still pretty upset (I bought my flight down there the day before she pulled this maneuver so I wasted over $260) I know that part of what it means to truly love and respect someone you care about is allowing them the space to live their life as they see best for them.

It also sucks because before meeting her the last time I had a potential companion was over 3 years ago. Solid women come very few and far between in my dating experience so I’m definitely not feeling good about my future of relationships. It’ll pass though; thanks for reading redditors!
