Dating : Age difference – I’m 28, she’s a sophomore/jr in college: Is this weird?

Friend asked if it was cool if they gave my number to someone who might be interested. I agreed

She started texting me

You guys reckon that age difference is weird? She’s younger than my younger brother

I know the general rule for the lowest age you can date is half your age plus seven, so I might be coloring outside the lines a little with this girl

I don’t want to be a creeper in peoples’ eyes you know?

  1. Honestly, if you guys vibe well, are at the same (or near same) level maturity wise, and don’t have a problem with the age difference, then I don’t think it’s a big deal. I (20f) am going through something really similar with an older guy and this really helped me realize that our ages don’t matter because we mesh so well together. Talk and if it’s all good then great. If not then it’s okay and move on!

  2. If you feel it’s weird, it’ll be weird. I would never date someone that young, since the age difference and where you are in life is immensely different. 21-28, big gap. The older you get the smaller the maturity gap. If she’s 21ish and you’re 28 that’s a big difference between giving it a few years and she’s 30 and you’re 37. that’s a massive difference in emotional maturity between those two sets. I’d take a 30 year old when in 37 any day, over a JUST legal drinking age when I’m just pushing 30. I do not expect 18-21 to be emotionally mature enough to handle an adult relationship. I’d expect a lot of drama, bad communication, and unrealistic expectations.
