Dating : Am I being extra or was this slightly strange?
Two days ago, I went on my 3rd date with a guy I met on Tinder. Everything was going well after a walk at the park and he took me to his favorite sushi spot afterwards. We both ordered drinks, shared an appetizer, got a few rolls… it was all great.
Towards the end of the meal, I went to the restroom and he paid for everything before I came back. As we were leaving, he looked at me and said, « Oh, by the way… This was all $62. That’s how much I like you. Do you want ice cream after this? »
I thought it was odd to word it that way, so I asked if he wanted me to pay him back for my share or offer to buy the ice cream. He told me ‘no’ and that he would never allow the woman to pay for him and he always pays. That he « wears the pants » in the relationship and takes care of his women.
I wasn’t offended, but I thought it was odd how he mentioned how much everything was if he didn’t want me to split or pay for anything. Was that just him trying too hard??

Poorly done. I paid for my first few dates but I never have any need to bring it up. When we leave, she already knows cuz the tab’s been paid off. She was pleasantly surprised and I said I like to pay for the first few dates. No need to exclaim all these things about being the man in a relationship. If that person really is the man he claims to be, he’ll show it, not tell it.
Nah. not only is it strange, tbh, I think it’s a red flag.
A man shouldn’t have to tell you he is a good man. He should just be that. The fact he mentioned all that suggest he THINKS he is a better man than he is AND is going to expect you to be some kind of woman you’re not.
He thinks he’s impressing you by being a « provider ».
He was being weird… There’s no reason to bring up the cost. It sounds like he’s a little conceited and fishing for compliments. What’s next? Is he going to tell you how much he paid for condoms if you sleep together?
