Dating : Do I need to ask her to be my girlfriend?
Firstly, I am very aware that this could be a silly question so I can only apologise for my ignorance. I have been dating this girl for the past 2 months now and things have been going very well but I was watching a TV programme where the guy asked the girl he was dating to be his girlfriend. Now I thought you didn’t need to ask and that it just happened, after a while you just accpeted that you were in a relationship. Am I being really stupid or do I need to ask her?
If you haven’t stated that you’re exclusive, that’s a great place to start!

You don’t. She’ll bring it up, usually with a « where is this going? » or « what are we? » kind of question. If you guys are already having fun and enjoying each other’s company, then what does adding a label add anything of value? Apart from a sense of validation which just seems desperate and rushed.
Also, don’t base your actions off of TV shows, new shows mostly depict false notions of dating and relationships.
Always best to make it clear. My boyfriend did this with me since we were basically already acting like we were exclusive. We went on a date and at the end of the day he just asked
hey, so do you wanna make it official?
« Huh? »
Do you wanna be my girlfriend?
« Haha yes of course »
Don’t know why many people are afraid of putting labels if you’re already committed to each other.
Totally up to you if you want to ask her, though she might appreciate it like I did 🙂
