Dating : How do I avoid being a rebound?
Here’s the situation:
I met this beautiful girl a few weekends ago and we hit it off. We were sharing about ourselves and it quickly became apparent there was compatibility between the two of us. But without going into too much detail, she brought up how she broke up with her long term boyfriend fairly recently (a couple weeks prior) during our conversation. It gave me enough pause where I didn’t pursue taking her back home with me.
Some more backstory: she’s moving to where I currently live to start a new job and so there’s also the dynamic that I want to be cognizant of where she’s starting a new life.
Given that, what’s the appropriate time frame to give a person moving to a new area and how do I effectively navigate this situation to avoid becoming her rebound?
Keep friendly, only slightly flirty contact, but give her a month or so space with dating until she has moved. Make the contact every two/three days or so, and about how she is coping with the changes happening. Concerned but not clingy. Unless she asks you out, then go!
If you didn’t know her before and she only broke up with him two weeks ago, then you are in rebound territory and she remains in the danger zone for backsliding into the previous relationship again.
Even if you jump right into things and give her an unforgettable fuck she might backslide and then you’ll be sad.
if she really likes you, you’ll honestly have to turn the tables and play hard-to-get a bit. You have to ensure she knows your intentions are romantic and you are not looking to become some loser orbiter or rebound chump. Keep things flirty not « friendly. » Don’t try to be a therapist. Let her sort out her business. If that leads back to you, cool. Otherwise, forget her.
By simply not worrying about it. Just take her home and ‘please’ her.
