I’m 17 and my love interest is 21. We are both Christian and have the same views and unique outlooks. He’s weary about being in a relationship with me and I totally understand that. I’m just wondering from other people’s perspective if it’s morally wrong?

  1. There’s a big gap in maturity between 17 and 21. Lots of 17 years olds feel like they’re mature when they’re not. I don’t want to say « don’t do it » but I would advise caution.

As a 22 year old I taught 16 year olds. Honestly, some of them were attractive on a superficial level, but I knew they were really different from me. Even if I wasn’t their teacher I couldn’t date them – they would just be too exhausting. 17 year olds worry about teenager shit and 21 year olds deal with adult stuff. If your friend was in a relationship with you he would have to support you in your life, but you would probably have a really hard time supporting him in his life.

Is it morally wrong? No, probably not. If you’re in a relationship for the right reasons, then how could it be morally wrong? It doesn’t sound like he wants to date you to take advantage of your inexperience.
