Dating : Unusual pets?

Is keeping reptiles a turn off to most women? I want to get a bearded dragon, but I realize it’s kind of a weird animal to keep.

  1. Go for it, don’t let such a trivial thing prevent you from getting and caring a pet you’re interested in. I just moved in with my gf and have a snake, albeit I got the snake after we got together, at the time I had my own apartment.

She used to absolutely hate anything that isn’t cat or dog, and was disgusted by snakes. She was fine when visiting as long as he was in his cage or if I was keeping some distances when handling him.

Guess what, fast forward ten months and he has become as much the « cute house pet » as any cat or dog would have. She loves him! She can even touch him without problem, although it still requires a bit of conditioning to let her handle him for a minute or so.

Just go for it tbh, you don’t even need to disclose it unless specifically asked to. Realistically, women you date won’t end up at your house before a couple of dates at least, and most definitely won’t move in before some time. No point scaring them early by saying you have lizard and stuff at home, while they very much could come to like the little guy given time to know you both first 🙂

  2. If you want a lizard then get a lizard. If the girl you’re with ends up liking reptiles that’ll just be one more thing you guys have in common, if not it’s also not a huge deal breaker either.
