POF : POF has implemented an age filter?

POF : POF has implemented an age filter?

I’m a guy over 45 who regularly dates girls in their 20’s. Judge what you’d like to, that is not exactly why I’m writing.

Prior to a few weeks ago, communicating with such ladies was working. Now it is not. On anybody under 30, I get « this user accepts messages from certain users only ».

Now, I understand that anybody can add an age filter to limit who may message them. And those messaging filters normally show up at the end of a profile, under something like, « To message this user, you must… » – and there would be various criteria created by the user, such as age ranges, or distance, etc.

The thing is, I’ve randomly tried maybe 30 or 40 users under 30, and while NONE show this age range (or any age range) as a messaging filter, the message applies.

A little math shows 30 is exactly 1/2 my age, plus 7. Sound familiar? It’s the old « acceptable age difference » formula that is often kicked around.

Without announcing it, it looks like they’ve put that formula in as a built-in and unavoidable filter.

Problem: Some of the women in that age range message me, or like the profile, etc. And I can not, even in response to a direct message, answer them.

This is fucked in the extreme, and is an ageist and discriminatory software feature.

I’ll bet most redditors in this forum (the few that there are) are not seeing this problem because they don’t date in that age range (and that’s probably because most of you are younger).

Anyway, comment on this dating preference if you’d like, but I also date women in my age range. And older. If there’s attraction mutually, it’s all cool, and for a site to presume that there can not and must not be such a relationship is not acceptable.

I’ve written to them, and will post any response, but I really doubt they will.

Are you forced to use POF?

If not your argument is border line retarded.

    >and for a site to presume that there can not and must not be such a relationship is not acceptable.

So why have you not taken your business elsewhere?
