Dating : App dating and the hypothesis advantage of being a girl vs being a boy : is there some real numbers out there?

Some says it’s easier being a girl, because men are less selective and cute (even average next-door girls) are flooded with matchs, messages and messages from premium feature.

Some says it’s the same for men and women, that it’s all related to your attractiveness.

Who’s right?

Is there numbers out there that separate the truth from perceptions?

  1. Scientifically speaking, it makes sense that girls get all the matches. Men have testosterone. Men want to plant their seed in as many women as possible.

So as long as you’re a human female, you meet the criteria lol.

  2. I’m a woman who’s used dating sites on and off for a few months now. Looks-wise, I’m pretty plain. I can get a decent number of matches, but only a small fraction lead to extended conversations or real dates. I’ve gotten stood up and ghosted multiple times because online dating sucks.

There’s data to support both sides of the argument on which gender has it harder. Men get fewer matches and messages unless they’re highly attractive. A majority of dating site users are men competing (mostly) for women. I don’t have the link on me, but an OK Cupid study showed that 2/3 of messages from men on the site went to the top 1/3 most attractive women. Though women rated 80% of men as below-average in looks, they were more likely to converse with men below their own attractiveness level.
