Dating : Handling attraction to much older men
So I’m 34 and have dated much older people a fair bit, had a very long-term relationship with a woman 15 years my senior, which was great and ended amicably. I’ve since gone on to date older women, as well as people in their 30s, but I find myself consistently drawn to men 45-55+.
I wouldn’t say this is new, but I find that I just get very shy/nervous when trying to chat up an older guy that I’m interested in. Part of this is that IRL it’s difficult to know if someone’s married without knowing them personally ahead of time, and I worry (too much?) that I might make a mistake and flirt with someone who is married. I’m not nervous around older women (who I do quite well with), only older guys. A friend joked that this is now a bit of a fantasy, as I basically never date older men, and I suppose she’s right.
So what do I do? How can I get over my shyness when it comes to flirting with and talking to attractive older men? If online dating is the best, is there a good way to indicate that I am looking for someone much older?
(Before anyone goes there, I’m a programmer and not in need of a sugar daddy haha)
