Dating : I finally got a date, and I’m so nervous! Please, help me out!
Hey folks.
So, I (24M) recently started talking with a classmate of mine that I had a crush for a long time. She is awesome, and we really hit it off on our texting conversations.
I decided to ask her out for a cup of coffee, and she eagerly agreed to it. But I’m nervous. Too nervous, even. I’m afraid to screw it up somehow, because this will be my first (!) date ever.
To give a bit of context, it’s not like I never dated anyone. I dated a girl for 4 years, but we were friends before we dated, so I never went out on a date with her without knowing her at all. Since I broke up with her, I met some girls in parties and social gatherings, but I never went on a date with someone I barely know, so I really don’t know how to act.
What if we don’t have anything to talk about, and an awkward silence comes?
What are some « tells » that could give me a hint that the date is going well?
What should we talk about in this first date? What are some good topics to go for, or bad topics that I should avoid?
I really want this to work, and I could really use some help.

I know this sounds very cliche, but just be you. I know I have acted very uptight in some of my first dates, but ultimately you want her to see the real you. Make a few jokes, ask her questions about her family, her career etc. Main thing is to listen to what she has to say. Make it all about her and a little about you. Some « tells » to see if the date is going well is her body language. If she is touching you in any way, you are good. Also, see if she makes prolonged eye contact. There are plenty of videos on YouTube for girls body language. Good luck!
