Dating : I paid for his steak, lobster and three triple drinks.

This sub got me thinking of a good story to share!!

Okay so this happened a few years ago when I moved to the city I’m currently residing in. I downloaded tinder in hopes to find new friends/prospects.

Well I match with one guy and he seemed great. We plan a date at the casino comedy night. So it started absolutely wonderful, telling each other what we do and what our hobbies are. I tell him I’m a welder, and he loses it. “That’s the hottest thing for a woman.” “You must make so much money!”

Well we order drinks and food, he seems super hungry and thirsty as he gets the steak and lobster as well as three triple drinks. Half way through the food, we’re once again talking about how he thinks women in carhartt is irresistible. THEN THIS DAMN DUDE TELLS ME IM PAYING FOR THIS ENTIRE DATE!!
He explained since I’m the bread winner and money maker that I should pay for everything! When I tell him I’ll never call him again he said “Well I got free dinner from a hot chick so I don’t care.” WHAT THE???

So that ended the first date in a new province and city. Hasn’t been any better dating since then either. Now I move across the country in August so I can’t really date, so therefore I give up.

  1. lol well, you didn’t *have* to pay. You could have just paid for yours and laughed the entire time you were writing the check/walking your cute butt out the door. With the level of douchiness this guy was exhibiting, I probably would have gleefully agreed, gassed him up on ‘how much of man he is’ for being so bold, excused myself to go to the bathroom, went to the server, paid my tab, and ordered the guy something else expensive to let him sit and stew in his own ridiculousness as he slowly figures out I left and ain’t paying for SHIT! lol

    P.S., I’m a guy.

  2. I watched an argument between two people on a date spill out of a restaurant onto the street when a woman tried to skip on her half of the check. Friday night. They were followed out by the waiter asking them if they were planning on paying the bill, to which the man loudly asked the woman « Yeah, are you going to pay your half of the check? »

Kudos to both the waiter and dude; I’d have stiffed her with the bill had I seen her trying that.

    Good luck on your move!

  3. Why did you do it?! I would never let a guy TELL me I was paying for the whole thing. Asking is one thing. I would’ve paid for my half and let him fumble through the awkwardness of paying for his.

  4. I always plan something simple like coffee on a first date so I don’t unnecessarily pay for someone whom I may not want to see ever again. I can also see how my date responds when the bill comes (eg. taking out a wallet, telling me she’d split the bill, or just sitting there waiting for me to pay).

On a second date, I’ll plan a two part date consisting of a meal and an activity/drinks/desserts. This is so I can see if my date respects me enough to share the costs. The reason for having two parts is if I pay for the meal first, a reasonable person would offer to pay for part 2 to share costs. Whether or not it’s even isn’t important, but the gesture is very important.

I call these the wallet tests and I stick to them strictly. I’ve never gone out on a second date with someone who failed the first wallet test. Fortunately, everyone whom I went out on a second date with passed the second wallet test.

  5. I mean was he at least homeless? Yeah there was story on the news of a guy doing this & he did it so many times it he got jailed for it because most of the women came as plaintiffs. This was one of those new warnings in online dating.

I’m sorry it happened to you but I guess next time make sure they at least put down a deposit

  6. Just due to the meme of girls just being on tinder for free food, this makes me laugh. Though I do feel bad for you, lol.

    Good luck in the future.
