Dating : How do I find people like me?

Dating : How do I find people like me?

Hi. I have Dependent Personality Disorder and I’ve had a really hard time finding people who are willing to accept me for who I am, because this illness doesn’t go away unfortunately, and I have a hard time existing without someone else. I’m in a bit of a bind. How can I find someone (who is perhaps preferably autistic like I am) who is willing to accept me?

tl;dr: I’ve got DPD. How do I find people who will accept that?

  1. I’m not sure if I’ve got DPD, but I do get very attached to people, and unfortunately that does become a hindrance once things start going badly.

If you just want to chat, I’m always up for it.

  2. So I don’t know much about DPD. But assuming it’s like other personality disorders and mental health issues, I’m sorry to break it to you but you can’t expect someone to just take it completely. It’s your responsibility to manage things in a way that is more reasonable and healthy for a partner. I’m all for accepting who you are and not being ashamed of your mental health, I don’t believe you need to be Neuro typical and perfectly healthy and independent to date, but you should also keep yourself in check as much as you can.

Otherwise, assuming you’re looking for other people with the same disorder as you do or people who are also co dependent… Dating apps, especially OKCupid, could be a good pick, because you can be upfront about what you want, and people who like that will go towards you, OKCupid is also more based on personality than Tinder, it gives you lots of space to describe yourself and what you want.

Tinder : Met this girl on Tinder over a year ago, and her daughter and her just moved in!

Dating : Wow, this is amazing.
