Dating : Just ended a long term relationship, need advice

So my (ex)fiance and I just broke things off after 2.5 years. In hindsight this was probably a long time coming; he was very obsessed with me to an unhealthy degree and had a lot of mental health problems he needed to work out. You can check my post history for more info but long story short in early July he called and told me it was over and that he’d been contemplating murdering me rather than break up. I’m still in shock over that one and was in denial for a bit trying to justify it and fix things but the relationship has 100% run its course. I’m in a bit of a state of head vs heart warfare right now. I know it’s over and I’m coming to accept that and that it was inevitable but a tiny part of me still wishes it could happen in the future.

I know that I need to give myself time and be single for a while before entering into another long term relationship. I’ve never been one for casual hookups either. But I met a guy who I’ve been talking to and we’re hitting it off which has me worried. He knows my situation and that i don’t want anything serious or to hook up so at least I’m not leading him on. I can tell though my emotional state wants to cling to someone new right away so how do I keep things casual with guys and what are some signs to look out for that I’m ready to be in a relationship again?

  1. The fact that you considered trying to save a relationship with a dude who said he contemplated murdering you rather than breaking up tells me you need to take some time out of the dating game. Focus on you. Get your headspace right. Get into some hobbies and hang out with some friends. Give your emotions and nerves some time to settle. Guys will still be around when your mind is in a better place.
